KZ2 New Map Packs Avail

Killzone 2 “Flash & Thunder” Pack Out Today - How to Survive a Nuclear Attack

Posted by Sebastian Downie // Producer, Guerrilla Games

With the release of the second Killzone 2 downloadable content pack “Flash & Thunder” on PlayStation Store today, we have been able to uncover Helghast documentation on their movements in the newest maps: Southern Hills and Beachhead. These two maps might be familiar to veterans of the first Killzone on PS2, but they have been completely reworked and re-imagined to suit the PLAYSTATION 3 experience. With that in mind, here’s a report from the frontlines on how to survive the Southern Hills and nuclear attack!

Helghast Field Manual 15: Surviving the Southern Hills

The treacherous ISA forces have resorted to using nuclear devices in their futile efforts to invade our beloved home-planet of Helghan. This cowardly act will not go unpunished and the Helghast High Command training corps has prepared a field manual to ensure its loyal soldiers do not die in vain. Read the below carefully as it could be the difference between your survival of a nuclear attack and turning into a burning corpse.

1. When you hear the siren, drop whatever you are doing. Just run like heck. A live soldier is a lot more useful to the Helghan Empire than a scorched, smoking one. You’ll only have a couple of seconds to get to cover, so don’t waste any time.
2. Science be damned! Just Duck & Cover! If you see the nuke going off the in the distance, simply ensure that you have a roof above your head. You don’t even have to close the windows or anything. Anyone caught outside will be turned into a something resembling jerky.
3. If you spawn in your base and hear the sirens going off, just stay where you are and the let the folks outside deal with the problems. You’ll be much quicker off the mark once the dust settles.
4. Sentry Bots and Sentry Turrets are not immune to the devastating power of the nuke. Don’t leave them sitting outside, or they will turn into burning chunks like anything else. Place Sentry turrets inside to ensure their safety and they will cut off the enemies path to shelter.
5. If you are inside, watch the doorways for enemies ducking inside to safety. Or even better, mow them down with an emplaced machine gun before they get anywhere near. That’ll teach ‘em to run like dogs!
6. Out in the open? Any base can be a safe spot from the impending nuclear annihilation. If you find yourself far from home, just go duck into the enemies’ base. Your chances of survival will be higher than out in the open.
7. The Bots in Killzone 2 do have a sense of self-preservation and when that siren sounds, they will try to save themselves as much as any living player. Follow them for the closest safe-spot, but make sure no sneaky ISA scum are hiding in there in the first place.
8. Repaired ammo boxes and Emplaced MG’s will not be destroyed by the blast, so you won’t have to repair them again.
9. Assassination targets! If the siren goes off, get to cover. I repeat, run like hell. Nothing worse than successfully defending the target and having it turned into smithereens before your very eyes and not being able to do anything about it.
10. If all else fails, climb up the ladder to the roof of the central base to get a good view of the explosion in the east. It might cause you a fiery death, but damn it the explosion is too sexy not to look at in all of its splendor.

Keep these tips in mind when the ISA Cruisers launch their gutless assault on our beloved planet and you might just survive another day.

All hail Visari!

Killzone 2 Patch 1.27 Details

Posted by TJ Consunji // Associate Product Marketing Manager

Even though the game has been out in stores for a while, Guerrilla remains committed to keeping Killzone 2 one of the strongest multiplayer experiences for PLAYSTATION 3. This week sees the release of Patch 1.27, which introduces a number of tweaks based on direct feedback from the Killzone community. We sat down with Eric Boltjes, Guerrilla’s Lead Multiplayer Designer, to walk us through the most important changes and the reasons for their implementation.

First of all, Eric, can you run us through the highlights of Patch 1.27?

Sure! Most importantly, we’ve added functionality to make the process of finding and playing with friends much easier, tweaked the Skirmish Mode to keep it interesting for players with lower-bandwidth network connections, introduced a new ‘High Precision’ option to the controller configuration menu, and improved the overall balance of the game. There’s also a host of smaller changes as well, but I’ll save that for the change log.

Let’s start with the first one: finding and playing with friends. How has that been changed?

We’ve examined how party systems work and added similar functionality to our game where possible. The ‘Join Friend’ option has been changed so that the player can automatically join a friend’s faction and squad – even if faction balancing is on. In addition, squads and their factions are now persistent over multiple games, so friends can keep playing together continuously.

Killzone 2 Patch 1.27 Join Game

You said the Skirmish Mode been tweaked – can you explain?

Well, we’ve decided to unlock all the badges in Skirmish Mode. Considering that the game has been out for a while, and that many players have already reached the rank of General, we believe this is a nice way for players with lower-bandwidth network connections to experience the full range of weapons and abilities available in the Warzone.

Control-wise, what exactly does the new ‘High Precision’ option do?

When this option is switched on, it makes the analog sticks more responsive to small movements. Turned off, the controls behave exactly as they did before the patch. It’s not a radical overhaul of the control system, so the layout and the ‘weight’ of the controls remain the same.

Still, a lot of us here at Guerrilla really enjoy the new High Precision option, so we’ve decided to switch it on by default for new players. Existing Killzone 2 players will have the option turned off by default after patching – we wouldn’t want to force a sudden change to the controls on you!

Killzone 2 Patch 1.27 - high precision

How have you improved the overall balance of the game?

For starters, Patch 1.27 allows players to switch factions manually if the factions are unbalanced. If the factions consist of, say, 13 players versus 11 players, a player from the largest faction can manually switch over to make it an even 12 versus 12. Switching in the other direction is not allowed, so players from the smaller team can’t defect to the larger team if the battle doesn’t go their way. Players who switch over retain all their points, but squad affiliations will of course be lost.

Furthermore, we’ve removed the temporary invulnerability awarded to players who spawn at a spawn point other than the base camp. The players will still be safe at their own base camp, but custom-placed or mission-based spawn points do not yield temporary invulnerability anymore. This will hopefully give opposing players already at this location a fair chance.

Finally, we’ve made a couple of changes to the Badge abilities. The Assault Badge, for instance, was deemed too powerful by many players – so we tweaked down its Armor ability from 100 hit points to 50 hit points. The Tactician Badge’s secondary ability (to request air support from a Sentry Bot) has also been tweaked to make the Sentry Bot more useful. It can aim more accurately now, and its health is a little higher as well. To make it even more useful, we’ve reduced the way automated turrets target them, so they’re not shot down as fast. It should certainly make the Air Support Specialist ribbon easier to obtain!

Thank you for your time, Eric!

Thank you, and thanks to all the Killzone 2 fans out there! We hope this patch demonstrates our continued support and dedication to Killzone 2. Stay tuned for more downloadable content and more tweaks coming in the near future!

1st Steel & Titanium, Now "Flash & Thunder"

Killzone 2 “Flash and Thunder” Pack Arriving on June 11

Killzone 2 fans!

As we hinted way back at GDC, the next Killzone 2 DLC goes “retro” with the release of the “Flash and Thunder” pack arriving after E3. Here’s a sneak peek as to what you can expect.

Guerrilla Games takes us back on a nostalgic journey with fan favorites from the first Killzone: Beach Head and Southern Hills. Both levels have been completely re-envisioned with the Killzone 2 engine and technology.

In Beach Head, the Helghast land on the sandy Vektan beaches forcing the ISA to defend their stronghold. Torrential rain and gale-force winds batter the landscape, with the water-filled craters supplying only limited cover. This harsh terrain requires you to keep your “head on a swivel” as enemies lurk around every corner.

Killzone 2 - Beach Head

Southern Hills takes the battle to a central Helghast base camp located on a hilltop. This version has been beefed up considerably over the original Killzone counterpart, with smaller structures offering plenty of hiding places that lend itself well to close quarters combat and long range sniping. Take cover when you hear alarms going off, as there might be a radioactive surprise headed your way.

Killzone 2 - Southern Hills

This pack will be available on the PlayStation Network on June 11th for $5.99. Also, a new Killzone 2 patch is coming next week, so stay tuned to the Blog for more details.

  10. All MLG/GameBattles accounts are property of Major League Gaming Inc.  Any advertising of, or attempts to buy, sell, trade, or exchange an account by any means is strictly prohibited.  Violators will be banned from all MLG/GameBattles websites and all related accounts terminated.

  11. ** Users must utilize their own unique username for competing on GameBattles. This unique username must have been registered on GameBattles personally by the user. The registered username must contain the correct and complete Name, Address, and Email of the user. If a false Name, Address, or Email was entered, the user voids the privilege to participate in the Ladder/Tournament and receive any prizes.

  12. ** As a user, you are personally responsible for accepting an invitation to a team. Someone else cannot accept a team invitation for you. If you do not personally accept a team invitation, you may be disqualified from competing. You also forfeit the ability to receive prizes.

  13. ** Users are prohibited from sharing account information stored on GameBattles with another person for any reason. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: usernames, passwords, gamertags, email accounts, etc. If another person accesses your account, you may be disqualified from the Ladder/Tournament and removed from GameBattles.

Rosters

  1. It is both teams responsibility to verify the eligibility of all players playing in the match prior to starting or continuing any match play. A team playing with an ineligible player will forfeit the match.

  2. If the opponent team has an ineligible player present, ask the team to replace that player. You must have given the team the required 15 minutes from match start time to substitute their ineligible players. If the ineligible player shows up between maps/rounds, you must give the team the required 5 to replace their ineligible player. If the team does not substitute their ineligible player and allows that player to compete in the match, follow these steps:

    • Immediately submit a ticket stating an ineligible player was present. This ticket must be submitted before starting or continuing to play the match.

    • When the match is completed, you must go back to your ticket and submit the URL link containing valid proof showing the ineligible player playing in the match. Without valid proof, no win can be awarded.

    • Tickets submitted after the match is completed are not valid. You must submit a ticket immediately when the issue arises as stated above.

    • All gamertags on a team’s roster must be valid. The gamertag must be legitimately owned by the user on the roster. If the team cannot access the gamertag or has an invalid gamertag on the roster, the team is subject to being locked.

  3. The rules below outline our policies on rostered players. Please see rule number 2 if the following rules are broken:

    • Users are permitted to be listed on only one team on each ladder at any given time. Users are only permitted one gamertag per ladder.

    • All roster spots must be comprised of only one valid gamertag. Spelling and spaces must be exact, but does not need to be case sensitive.

    • Gamertags may not contain foul language, disparaging remarks, hateful or racist names.

    • Players must have a green eligibility icon  next to their name to participate in matches.

Challenges

  1. Should a team need to cancel an already accepted match, they must submit a ticket requesting to do so at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time of the match. The match can also be removed at any time if both teams submit tickets agreeing to have it removed. Both teams are also recommended to post feedback stating they wish to cancel the match. If both teams do not agree to have the match removed, both teams are required to play the match.

  2. A team cannot play the same team more than once within a 12 hour period.

No-Shows

  1. A team has 15 minutes to show-up with the proper number of eligible players indicated in the match details (i.e. 3v3 would be 3 players), and be ready to start the match. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit. Teams are responsible for all scheduled matches.

  2. To receive a no-show win, you must submit a ticket within 30 minutes of the scheduled match time. You must also report the match as a win for your team.

Tickets · Cheating · Referees · Proof · General Ladder · Settings · Matches

Reporting

  1. Both teams are responsible for reporting the match within 30 minutes of its completion. If teams do not report matching results, the match will result in a ‘dispute’. Both teams are then required to submit a ticket regarding the dispute and include any valid proof they have. Teams can also resolve their own disputes by changing the scores they reported for the match. To do this, teams must go into the match report screen for the disputed match and change the scores within 24 hours of the scheduled start time.

  2. Teams that have 3 or more disputed matches will be automatically locked and unable to play additional matches. The team will not be unlocked until they have less than 3 disputed matches. To resolve disputes, please see rule number 1 above.

  3. Matches that go unreported by one team will be reported automatically for the team that did report. Matches that go unreported by both teams will be deleted automatically.

  4. Any team found to report as the winning team before the match is played or completed will be subject to penalties.

  5. All matches need to be reported correctly by both teams. If there is an issue with a match, the match must first be reported accurately and then a ticket containing your valid proof can be submitted afterwards. Do not dispute the match on purpose. Please see the proof section below for more information. If your claims are found to be valid with proof, an Admin has the ability to revert the match.

  6. Disputing a match on purpose will result in penalties for your team.

    • The first time a team disputes on purpose without valid proof, the team is locked for 6 days and the team warning level is increased to level 1.

    • The second time a team disputes on purpose without valid proof, the team is disbanded and the member that disputed is banned as well as the leader of the team.

Tickets

  1. Do not contact staff inquiring about the status of a ticket or your team is subject to penalties.  We receive many tickets from our users, and they are handled in the order they are received.

  2. When submitting a ticket, fill out all applicable fields. Submitting an incomplete or incorrect ticket will be closed without being processed. You are required to select your team name from the drop-down. If you are submitting a ticket about a match, you must also fill out the match ID or your ticket will not be processed.

  3. All admin decisions are final. If you would like your case looked into again due to new evidence, feel free to submit a new ticket. Submitting a ticket without additional evidence is argumentative and you risk your team being locked. Do not post in the forums regarding a ticket issue.

Cheating

  1. The use of any communications other than what is provided within the game is prohibited. For example, the use of Skype or private chatting during a match is not allowed. The only exception to this rule is for games that give you no advantage by using outside communication.

  2. We have a zero tolerance policy for cheating. Teams caught cheating, “glitching”, or abusing in-game mechanics in any way will be removed from GameBattles.

  3. If your team receives a win that was not earned or played, you must submit a ticket to have it removed. Failure to do so will result in your team being removed from GameBattles.

Referees

  1. If you have any problems during a match, you may contact a Staff member over Live Support to answer any questions you may have. Please contact the Referees first as this is their job. To find the list of Staff members, click on the “Support” tab located within each ladder.

  2. If a Staff member is called into a match for any reason, all players must comply with the Staff member’s instructions. Failure to do so will result in penalties for your team.

  3. Verbally abusing Staff members called into a match will not be tolerated. The individual user and/or team violating this rule will be subject to being locked. All team leaders are responsible for the conduct of the players on the team while interacting with staff and are subject to penalties for abusive team players.

Proof

  1. You need to show proof of winning each map/game in a match to be given the win for it. All proof must be clearly visible and show the in-game full scoreboard during the completion of that map/game. The proof must all clearly show both team's players to be considered valid.

  2. We recommend all video proof should be uploaded to the GB Game Room. Picture proof can be uploaded to your GB profile. The URL link to the individual pictures/proof must be placed in a ticket.

  3. For all glitching and cheating claims, the burden of proof is on the accuser. To submit a glitching or cheating claim, you must submit a ticket and include the URL link containing valid proof.

  4. All conversations between users are not considered proof. This includes AIMs, emails, PMs, etc.

General Ladder
  1. All players participating in a match must be on the roster for at least 12 hours and can not be updated within the past 12 hours prior to the match start time indicated in the accepted match details.

Settings
  1. The default settings specified in these rules can be changed, but only if an option is available in the challenge. The staff will support no other agreements, (i.e. verbal, AIM, email). So unless specified otherwise in the match details, these default rules will be followed.

    • General Settings
      • Game Name: Challenge Details
      • Max players: The max number of players in the match plus 2. (ie: A 4v4 would be a max of 10.)
      • Password: Challenge Details
      • Faction Balancing: Off
      • My Rank Range: Off
      • Friendly Fire: On
      • Enemies on radar: When Firing
      • Spectators: Off
      • Bots: Challenge Option
      • Add AI Bots: 0
      • PSN Account verified

    • Restrictions - If an item below is restricted via the match details, it is not allowed for use. If a team is found using a restricted item they will lose the map in which the item was used on. Valid proof will need to be provided.

      • Assault Class: Challenge Option
      • Rocket Launchers & Grenade Launchers: Challenge Option

  2. The following settings are set for each game mode.

    • Body Count
      • Mission Time: 10 Minutes
      • Maximum Kills: 50

    • Capture and Hold
      • Point Maximum: 250
      • Minimum Capture Time: 10 Seconds
      • Mission Time: 10 Minutes

    • Search and Retrieve
      • Flag Maximum: 3
      • Mission Time: 10 Minutes

    • Search and Destroy
      • Explosive Detonation Time: 45 Seconds
      • Mission Time: 4 Minutes

  3. If Warzone Only is selected to be used in the Match Details then the first map out of the 3/5 randomized maps will be used for the Warzone game mode. The above 4 game types will need to be used for the Warzone game mode. If a team has the incorrect settings in or during a Warzone mode, the present game type is immediately forfeited and the room is abandoned. A new room is to be made with the correct settings and the score in favor of the non-hosting team.

Matches
  1. All matches must be played in their entirety unless both teams agree to postpone the match or remove the challenge. If agreed, both teams must submit a ticket requesting the postponement or challenge removal. A referee can be contacted to witness the agreement details.

  2. Teams can play a best of 3 (first team to win 2 maps wins the match) or a best of 5 (first team to win 3 maps wins the match).

  3. The room is to be created by the higher ranked team. It is the responsibility of both teams to check the settings of the game before the match starts. If both teams start the match with incorrect settings, the match will stand unless the map, game mode, or time of day is incorrect, which would result in the map needing to be replayed.

  4. In a best of 3, the higher ranked team picks the first side on the first map, the other team chooses the first side on the second map. In a best of 5, teams will alternate picking first sides for the first four maps, starting with the higher ranked team. In both cases, whichever team won the most overall rounds gets to pick the first side for the final map. If both teams have won the same amount of overall rounds, the higher ranked team gets to pick the first side for the final map. If neither team is ranked, the team with the id closest to 1 will be considered the higher ranked team. Rank is determined at the scheduled time of the battle.

  5. Teams may not delay the match for more than 5 minutes between each map. If a team delays the start for longer than 5 minutes between maps, they will forfeit that map. The team that did not delay must submit a ticket with valid proof showing that this delay did occur. First, the match must be completed and the scores must be reported correctly. Do not dispute the match on purpose. After the match is complete, submit a ticket containing the URL link of the proof.

  6. If a player disconnects during the initial launch of a map, the map will be restarted. The initial launch is defined as within the first 30 seconds or before the first kill. If both teams disagree over when the disconnection took place, video proof must be provided. First, the match must be completed and the scores must be reported correctly. The URL link of the proof must be submitted in a ticket once the match is completed.

  7. If a player disconnects after the game has started, the game will continue and a player may be re-invited. The re-invited player may be the player that dropped or a new eligible player. The only exception to this rule is for a "Kill Dependent Game Mode". Please see rule 8 below.

  8. A "Kill Dependent Game Mode," often referred to as Body Count, is a game mode whose winner is decided by the overall number of kills, or points gained from kills. Because this mode relies on the number of players present, a team can never play shorthanded when playing this mode. A Team that loses a player during this game mode, after the first kill has occurred, forfeits that map.

  9. Deliberate and repeated team-killing or committing suicide on purpose during Body Count will result in a forfeit of the map. If a team is accused of violating this rule, the accuser must provide valid video proof. First, the match must be completed and the scores must be reported correctly. The URL link of the proof must be submitted in a ticket once the match is completed. An Admin has the ability to overturn the match if valid proof is provided.

Patch 1.24 - Fewer Bugs, More Features!

Posted by Eric Boltjes // Lead Online Game Designer, Guerrilla Games

Hey Killzone fans!

In a continuing effort to provide support for Killzone 2 Online, and to show you day-1 fans of Killzone that we mean business, we are very happy to announce the upcoming 1.24 patch. This patch is the biggest one yet, and addresses a large number of reported issues, exploits and bugs - but it also adds new functionality to the game for you to enjoy! I would like to highlight the fact that we are adding 3 new ranks to the game, reached at 5000, 10000 and 100000 points respectively. These ranks do not give any rewards but it allows the real hardcore players to show off their hard work to everyone in-game! Other highlights include a new 17-24 player search game filter, enlarged HUD radar distance and a much requested “Join Clan Member” tab in the join game screen. The patch also allows you to play against the next batch of contenders: Japan, who will be able to buy their copies of Killzone 2 on the 23rd of April and will be joining the community online.

Allow me to clarify on these new features a little: The new ranks we’ve added are basically a reward to all the players out there that have massive amounts of points, and we hope that it inspires other players to keep on playing. The 17-24 player filter was a direct request from the community because a lot of people think the ’sweet spot’ of the multiplayer levels is around 24 players instead of 32 and are creating custom games accordingly. The Join Clan Member tab was also a direct community request, allowing players to join clan members when they are playing regular non-clan related games.

There has been a lot of discussion on the forums about the lack of a ‘party system’ in Killzone 2 and rest assured, we are working hard on creating features that will make it easier for you to play with your friends online. These features include being able to join the same faction of a friend already in-game directly from the join game menus, manually being able to switch faction during gameplay and making existing squads consistent over multiple rounds; no more need to create a new squad every single round. These features will be coming to a patch near you soon!

To read more details about the 1.24 patch specifics, please visit the Killzone 2 FAQ section.

We hope this patch shows how dedicated we are to the game, and that it will allow you to enjoy Killzone 2 Online just that little bit more! Of course, we will continuously keep looking for more bug and exploit fixes, as well as keep an eye out for other additions we can add to the game. So please keep reporting on the forums! And last but definitely not least, a big thank you from the entire Killzone 2 team to all the Killzone players out there for their continuing support!

Keep on fraggin’!

P.S.: I almost forgot to mention: The patch also adds DLC support! … So you know what that means… ;)

Download Killzone 2 Steel and Titanium April 30th

Posted by Alex Armour // Manager, Public Relations

You may have seen the official announcement of the first DLC map pack for Killzone 2 on Spike TV and currently on Gametrailers.com, but we wanted to reiterate some of the key details of what will be available as well as let you know the official date it will be on the PSN for download: April 30th. The price for this map pack is still TBA.

The first DLC pack, called “Steel and Titanium”, will contain two brand new multiplayer maps with new gameplay elements and strategic twists, sure to test even the most skilled players.

Wasteland Bullet Vekta Cruiser

The first map in the pack is Wasteland Bullet, and the action will take place on the bullet train that and transports goods and troops between Pyrrhus and the Wasteland. The game is a frenzied firefight to wrestle control of the train from the enemy and into the hands of your faction. With the train moving at full speed, players will need to remain aware of the immediate environment as well as enemies – hitting an overhead obstacle at this speed will mean instant death.

KZ2 reaches 500k in sales, what this might mean...

Killzone 2 has become the fastest first-party PS3 title to reach 500K unit sales, SCEA tells us. If Sony can continue to produce big hits like this, PS3's business should see some uptick.

by David Radd on Wednesday, April 08, 2009

Chart Toppers: Killzone 2 Hits the Mark

Few games have ever provoked such polemical reactions upon their revelation as Killzone 2 did in 2005. Jaws hit the floor, and some were certain that the game would propel the PS3 to the top, while others asserted the teaser was merely pre-rendered fabrication. A firestorm raged about the trailer's authenticity, and somehow the fate of Killzone 2 and the PS3 became inexorably linked.

One would think that with Killzone 2's release, the controversy would be over and people could determine for themselves the game's quality. Somehow, the game's availability has made it more of a lightning rod, with Sony supporters on one side feeling vindicated and others denouncing the game as hollow and unoriginal. Whatever Internet debates may remain, one thing is certain: Killzone 2 is already a success.

We once again chatted with Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing at SCEA, to talk about Sony's tent-pole title for early 2009.

Hundreds of thousands of willing ISA recruits
According to the NPD, Killzone 2 was the fifth best selling title overall for the month of February. This made the title the second best selling game on the PS3 during that period. Overall, Killzone 2 ended up selling 323,000 copies during the February period.

"We have exceeded our expectations with Killzone 2 – it shipped on February 27, which means there were only two days reported in the month," said Steinberg. "It also set the record as the most pre-ordered SCEA PS3 title to-date. Our PR metrics to date are also very strong, with a 92 average review score."

While Killzone 2 has gotten a good reception from critics, strong reviews don't automatically lead to strong sales. While the first Killzone saw much more mixed reviews, it did end up selling a couple million copies worldwide. Indications are, however, that Killzone 2 will blow past that mark sooner rather than later.

"Killzone 2 has been the fastest SCEA PS3 title to break the 500,000 unit mark and it's also the highest selling SCEA PS3 title for the first 30 days out of launch," detailed Steinberg. "So far, we are extremely happy with the results."

War never looked so beautiful.
The plot of Killzone 2 continues the conflict between the protagonists of the ISA and the red-goggled Helghast. This time around the heroes are on the offensive, taking the battle to their enemies' home planet of Helghan, giving a dark and foreboding backdrop to the entire game. While the single-player campaign can be finished in under 10 hours, plenty of hidden secrets add incentives to replay the various levels.

"The feedback we've received is that fans are quite happy with how we've extended the Killzone storyline. Of course for those who didn't play Killzone 1 or Killzone: Liberation, Killzone 2's story is very accessible to players that are not familiar with the franchise," commented Steinberg. "We have received some great feedback on the single-player levels and some of the extras do help to provide some variety in the mission structure. Hidden and secret items can be located throughout the single-player campaign and these elements can be used to unlock additional content at Killzone.com and gain items including wallpapers and field journals. This really helps to extend the Killzone experience outside of the [story]."

First Killzone 2 DLC Announced

Steel & Titanium Pack will contain two new multiplayer maps.

By Kat Bailey, 04/10/2009

It's been more than a month since Killzone 2 hit the market, so you know what that means. Yep, time to bring on the downloadable content.

According to GameTrailers TV, the first Killzone 2 DLC will be a multiplayer map pack called the "Steel & Titanium Pack." Contained within those packs will be two levels called Wasteland Bullet and Vekta Cruiser respectively. Should go over well with the multiplayer community that has been thriving since the much-needed fixes to issues like stability and sensitivity settings.

Killzone 2 is one of the better games to hit the PlayStation 3 so far this year, scoring an A in our review. If you haven't played it yet, it's definitely worth giving a try. For everybody else, the pack should be available later this month.

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

By now, you Killzone 2 multiplayer fans should be leveled up close to General. You should know how deadly the shotgun can be when Capture & Hold-ing at Radec Academy, and where to set up your sentry bots in Salamun Market. So what’s next for Killzone 2 multiplayer? Put a pot of coffee on and find out tonight.

re: Killzone 2

Just some details to get us moving along together with KZ2. Some of us still need/want to Rank up/Practice, so all badges/maps are available/understood before entering the Clan/tournament/Valor aspect of KZ2 online [Which looks to be loads of fun] If we can get some more of those interested to accept the in game invites [to the clan] as well as sign in to the Killzone website with their PS IDs at least once we'll be better able to get together and practice as a group. Nyx and I will hopefully be able to start a server prior to 8 pm several nights a week.  You get points/ribbons etc regardless of whether the match is full or not, so don't hesitate to jump in early. We'll try to keep the sides balanced and skirmish a bit until other peeps come in, then we'll form up on the same side. If you need to obtain any specific ribbons for Badges speak up early on & we'll take turns on objectives Please either form or accept an invite to join a squad as this gives you an additional spawn point option [Onto the Squad Leader] a dedicated com channel [Do remember proximity chat is still enabled so the enemy can Hear you if they are close] I'm going to more closely mirror the more common server set ups & descriptions to ensure we attract more players. That includes Friendly Fire being ON, so keep that in mind. If you can't get into the server [Says it's full] message me and I'll check the actual player load. If I reply "keep trying" that means it's NOT full, If it really is full and the Match is almost complete, I'll message you as soon as it ends [That's when people jump out who are done playing] Otherwise, If we have good participation I'll 'kick' someone if I have to. For now, If we do our best to form squads, we'll start figuring out who likes to play which badges etc. will be invaluable information later. The online match replay feature is also helpful.  If we can get everyone who wants to play in one or two sessions like this a week, we can consider waging valor wars etc. It's all for fun, as soon as we have 3-4 clan members in everyone's personality & style really starts to shine through.  Your welcome to bring any non-clan-member friends as these sessions are meant for leveling/up, practice, and to understand how everyone prefers to play so we can eventually form effective squads etc. Since everyone has their own schedule,[And Nyx and I have a blast playing even though we're still noobish] Nyx and I will try to do this as frequently as possible. Don't forget to check the clan section within KZ2 as well as the KZ2 Website www.killzone.com as this will be how we'll get messages to everyone later without having to message the entire JLA Group, as everyone doesn't have KZ2. Look forward to seeing everyone.

*Official* Upcoming fixes

Hi folks,

Boost
we’ve identified and fixed the bug to do with the boost medal not being awarded. It will go into a patch we are working on at present, but there is a workaround in the mean time to get it. Simply ensure that you are the Game Creator rather than client and you’ll be awarded it.

Network Errors/Honor Ranks
We are also looking at fixing a good bunch of the network errors and are looking into the complaints about the Honor Ranks as well as a couple of other bits and pieces. We’ll provide a list of fixes when we are close to releasing the patch.

Bots
We’re working on a permanent solution for the bots stat padding and have some internal solutions that we’re going to work on implementing. We’ll let you know what those are when we’ve got the patch together and the solution implemented.

We will NOT be wiping ALL stats and padders will be looked at individually by the moderators.

www.kz.com
www.killzone.com is being sorted out today to deal with the massive traffic its been facing and hope to have some long-term solutions in place shortly.
The stats are currently empty on the site and will be repopulated soon.
The site may not contain all the game functionality at first and we’re working on bringing it back as soon as possible.

Controller Issues
We have not stopped looking into the complaints and will see what we can do about it. Any possible changes will have to be carefully implemented and tested before being deployed though. Any potential changes would not be sweeping and we’d do our best to ensure they do not negatively affect anyone not having problems.

Charge disarming
We have identified the issue where sometimes the C4 charge in Search and Destroy will not disarm. Will be fixed with the next update.

Shotgun Aim Assist
Investigating the problem and will patch it up.

Clan Games
Sometimes the clan that does not turn up for a match is awarded the win under specific circumstances. Will be patched ASAP.

Battle Replay for Map 8 - Corinth Crossing
The BR on www.killzone.com is not quite right and will be fixed soon.

Ignore list
Was found not to be functioning correctly. Will be fixed in the next patch.

Crashes
Crash when using Saboteur disguise in certain situations. Will be fixed in the next patch.
Infrequent crash when trying to start a game with an empty game name. Will be fixed soon.

Medic/Assassination
There is an issue with the Assassination target HUD icon displaying when playing as a Medic. Investigating and will be fixed.

Thanks and apologies if I am not responding to all questions, PMs and threads. There are simply not enough hours in the day to help all of you out and I have to work on the issues themselves. So please stay calm and sensible and everything will get fixed up soon. As you can see we’ve fixed up a bunch of the problems you have encountered as well as a couple more you might not be aware of. The important thing is to be patient. Any patches have to be carefully implement to ensure that no additional issues are introduced.

Send pic of you Picking up KZ2 for another Contest

Picking up Your Copy of Killzone 2 Soon? Snap a Pic!

The time is almost upon us - in just a few precious hours, North American gamers will begin picking up and playing their copies of Killzone 2. In order to fully mark this occasion (probably the last time you’ll be outside for a few weeks), we encourage you to take a photo of yourself picking up the game. We know a *lot* of you pre-ordered the game, so we’ve started a collection on the PlayStation.Blog Facebook page. Just upload your pic(s) to the gallery and tag them with “kz2″ - you’ll need to ‘Fan’ the page first - and let us know you’ve joined the Helghan invasion!

As a bit of extra incentive we’ll be randomly giving out Killzone 2 Strategy Guides from BradyGames (we’ll select the lucky photogs a week from today).

We took a few Killzone 2 pics around the office today to get things started. So share your experience - and enjoy the game!

More Demo Codes {If ya didn't get one in Home}

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar

This Week in Killzone 2 (and more demo codes)

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

I hope those of you in the US are enjoying your President’s Day Holiday, (assuming you get the day off). When we get back into the office tomorrow, we’ll be amping up our Killzone 2 coverage, featuring a look inside the new Killzone.com, live chats with developer Guerrilla Games, and even a contest or two.

From reading the comments, we gathered that some of you weren’t able to track down a Helghast soldier in Home yesterday to request a Killzone 2 demo code. Fortunately, I was able to get ahold of a few (hundred) more to distribute via our PlayStation Twitter account.

If you’re already following our account, all you’ve got to do is send us an “@reply” and ask. We’ll direct message you the code when we get into the office tomorrow (Tuesday, Pacific time).

If you’re new to Twitter, or haven’t yet joined, I suppose we owe you a bit of an explanation. To get our attention, just type “@sonyplaystation” into a Tweet and ask for the demo (see pic below as an example).

PlayStation.Blog Twitter Account

You’ll also need to be following us, or we can’t send you a direct message with the demo code. This part’s easy - just click on “Follow” underneath our logo in the upper right corner of the page.

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend, and we’ll see you tomorrow!

PSN Killzone 2 Demo Coming February 26

PSN Killzone 2 Demo Coming February 26

Sony also takes time to justify pre-order demo strategy.

By Kat Bailey, 01/16/2009

You could be forgiven for being a bit confused about Sony's strategy of reserving its Killzone 2 demo for people who have already committed by pre-order. Sony, however, has not only taken the time to explain their line of thinking, but announced that the demo will also be available on the PlayStation Network the day before Killzone 2 officially launches.

Speaking with MTV Multiplayer, Sony Computer Entertainment America vice president of product marketing Scott Steinberg said that "offering a playable to motivate preorders speaks to our confidence in the appeal of a game such as Killzone 2." To Steinberg, it's a matter of enticing a potential customer to pre-order the game with the promise of a demo, then cementing their interesting making the purchase.

"Retailers will then merchandise those demos within their stores and online to maximize their visibility. Through this process, consumers are often times able to reserve their copy of the final game, which provides an incentive to purchase and helps seal the deal," Steinberg said.

For those who prefer the chance to try the game before they consider buying it though, Steinberg said that it would be available in North America "the week that the game is launching, for consumers who prefer that option."

If that describes you, then the demo will be available for download February 26. For those who simply can't wait until the day before launch, GameStop's pre-order package will net you the demo code February 2. So what are you thinking, PlayStation 3 owners?
