Killzone.com slow, but it rocks

mykz_front.bmp I was checking out the 411 on Killzone.com especially the 'My Killzone' tab. It tracks everything 'real time' and puts it in your profile nicely, I noticed some clans have already racked up over 1100 valor points, I think the Tournament mode is cool. I'll try to check to see if anyone selected a clan name similar to ours, but Kalel is gonna get it locked in ASAP. If you're on the fence, download the KZ2 Demo available on PSN and maybe we'll get some more participants. There is room for 64.

Picking up Your Copy of Killzone 2 Soon? Snap a Pic!

The time is almost upon us - in just a few precious hours, North American gamers will begin picking up and playing their copies of Killzone 2. In order to fully mark this occasion (probably the last time you’ll be outside for a few weeks), we encourage you to take a photo of yourself picking up the game. We know a *lot* of you pre-ordered the game, so we’ve started a collection on the PlayStation.Blog Facebook page. Just upload your pic(s) to the gallery and tag them with “kz2″ - you’ll need to ‘Fan’ the page first - and let us know you’ve joined the Helghan invasion!

As a bit of extra incentive we’ll be randomly giving out Killzone 2 Strategy Guides from BradyGames (we’ll select the lucky photogs a week from today).

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar

This Week in Killzone 2 (and more demo codes)

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

I hope those of you in the US are enjoying your President’s Day Holiday, (assuming you get the day off). When we get back into the office tomorrow, we’ll be amping up our Killzone 2 coverage, featuring a look inside the new Killzone.com, live chats with developer Guerrilla Games, and even a contest or two.

From reading the comments, we gathered that some of you weren’t able to track down a Helghast soldier in Home yesterday to request a Killzone 2 demo code. Fortunately, I was able to get ahold of a few (hundred) more to distribute via our PlayStation Twitter account.

If you’re already following our account, all you’ve got to do is send us an “@reply” and ask. We’ll direct message you the code when we get into the office tomorrow (Tuesday, Pacific time).

If you’re new to Twitter, or haven’t yet joined, I suppose we owe you a bit of an explanation. To get our attention, just type “@sonyplaystation” into a Tweet and ask for the demo (see pic below as an example).

PlayStation.Blog Twitter Account

You’ll also need to be following us, or we can’t send you a direct message with the demo code. This part’s easy - just click on “Follow” underneath our logo in the upper right corner of the page.

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend, and we’ll see you tomorrow!

Infinity Ward Teases Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Twitter

This could be the first semi-official confirmation of Modern Warfare 2 coming from Infinity Ward.

By Dustin Quillen, 02/05/2009
Call of Duty 4
Even though they technically already unveiled the project to in-game advertisers back in early December, Activision has been playing coy about the existence of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for quite a while now. They could be putting a stop to the silent treatment pretty soon, though, because Giant Bomb caught this illuminating Twitter post from Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling:
"Reviewing some radio-chatter VO we just finished recording for Modern Warfare 2 today. 'Cujo Two-One this is Vulture, solid copy on all.'"
Whether this was an honest slip-up or a cruel and deliberate smokescreen, there's your first semi-official confirmation of the next Call of Duty from Infinity Ward. Was there ever any doubt?

RE5 Demo on PSN Today

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 demo live on PSN today

Hey everyone, I’m Shawn Baxter (Snow) from Capcom-Unity. Our amazing Resident Evil 5 Demo goes live today on PSN, so I thought I’d tease you a bit with some of the cool things to expect, whether you’re an old fan or new to the series. One of the first things I noticed is how good the game looks. It’s hard to get by the beauty RE5 has to offer. Better still, you get to play through two beautiful stages in the demo. Aside from the sweet graphics, there’s plenty more that the demo has to offer.

shot0080-00000

For those new to the series, the controls can seem a bit different than you may expect. The RE brand has always forced you to take your time, stop while shooting, and conserve your ammo. It really helps add a sense of tension a normal shooter can’t offer. But to help those who are new to the world of RE, we have new control types that ease things up a bit. My favorite is Type A, which is probably best if you’re a fan of the previous games, especially RE4. Next on my list is Type D, which I find myself loving more and more. Type D is best if you’re new to the game, and it offers something the others don’t… Strafing! May seem like a simple thing, but in a game as tense as RE5, it can really help in those situations where you have little time to react.

Alright, so I’m sure you’ll love the graphics and controls, but there’s something even better that the Resident Evil 5 demo has to offer: Co-op. Best part is, you can play co-op online over the PSN, or even split-screen for some couch co-op. Now, of course you can play single player, but nothing beats actually playing through with someone who can plan and strategize with you. For an RE game, the fact that I can play with a buddy adds a whole new level of fun. Nothing like getting into a swarm of Majini, and having your partner shoot a few in the face so you can uppercut or flip-kick one of them!

sheva0073-00000 for_gd0041_2-00000

Once you’ve played through the demo, you may want to try taking on the Executioner (huge axe-guy) with a buddy. The first time you play through the demo, run! He is extremely tough. But once you get comfortable with the game and controls, try and bring him down. I’ve tried, and he is extremely hard, but it is indeed possible to kill him, so don’t give up.

Oh, and a quick tip I’ve found is to aim for the heads on the Majini so they stagger back. Chest shots work, but one shot to the head means only one bullet expended, then push Square to pull off one of the crazy powerful melee attacks. If you get them to fall on the ground, run up to him and stomp ‘em with your boot or stab with the knife if you’re playing as Sheva!

February 2nd is just around the corner, so add me to your friends list, and I’ll catch you online for some co-op Majini butt-kickin’! PSN ID: Snow_Infernus

See you online!
